SUMMARY:Summer Mini-Ango
DESCRIPTION:One Heart Sangha is offering a 4-week Mini Ango. The Mini Ango provides a supportive structure to commit to an additional level of practice for a set period of time. The primary purpose of the Mini Ango is to deepen your practice\, renew your commitment to the Dharma\, and if you like\, make a commitment to other aspects that can help make positive changes in your life. \n\n\n\nRead below for more details if you are new to our Mini Ango. \n\n\n\nRemote Meeting Dates\n\n\n\n\nJune 23 at 6:15PM-7:00PM\n\n\n\nJune 30 at 6:15PM-7:00PM\n\n\n\nJuly 7 at 6:15PM-7:00PM\n\n\n\nJuly 14 at 6:15PM-7:00PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants should commit to increased Zazen for the duration of the Mini Ango. For example\, participants can pledge to sit one extra day per week or increase their sitting time. You can be specific about the amount of time you want to commit to each day (or specific days)\, or be more flexible and commit to a certain amount of extra Zazen per week. In addition to increased Zazen\, participants may commit to other beneficial activities including: \n\n\n\n\nReading a book about Zen or a book related to your practice\n\n\n\nYoga\n\n\n\nVolunteer work\n\n\n\nSew a rakusu\n\n\n\nChant the Meal Gatha before eating\n\n\n\nReciting the Five Remembrances every day\n\n\n\nCommit to a street retreat\n\n\n\nCommit to a mindfulness practice (such as mindful eating\, listening\, driving etc.)\n\n\n\n\nYou can also commit to cutting back on activities that may hamper or interfere with your attention or practice. For example: \n\n\n\n\nConsume less junk food\n\n\n\nSpend less time on the Internet and/or social media\n\n\n\nNot staying up too late at night\n\n\n\nWatch less TV\n\n\n\n\nCommitments should be realistic and attainable. It’s best to select one or two commitments that are manageable rather than selecting too many or taking on too much.  \n\n\n\nIn addition to the commitments\, registrants will take part in four remote meetings. The meetings provide registrants with an opportunity to share their Mini Ango experiences and learn from each other.   \n\n\n\nFor more information contact Bruce Lindsay

SUMMARY:Bearing Witness at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum
DESCRIPTION:One Heart Sangha will be bearing witness to the WWII Holocaust by visiting the National Holocaust Memorial Museum in downtown Washington DC. Bearing witness is an important step in the Zen Peacemakers Three Tenets of Engaged Buddhism. By not knowing\, setting aside our fixed notions and ideas about the Holocaust\, we can bear witness to what arises in our hearts and minds as we tour the museum. \n\n\n\nAttendance is free and OHS will be providing timed entry tickets to the main exhibit. Registration will be limited to 25 attendees. \n\n\n\nRegistration will open once we have finished organizing the event.\n\n\n\nPlan on arriving by 10:30 AM at the latest and go through security on your own. The lines may be over 15 minutes on a Saturday. We will gather inside the museum to hand out tickets at 10:50 AM and enter together at 11 AM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease review this important information in advance\n\n\n\n\nUse the Museum’s 14th Street entrance.\n\n\n\nItems not allowed in the Museum include: guns\, all knives\, mace\, pepper spray\, and other weapons. Food and drink are prohibited\, except as medically necessary. You may drink water from capped bottles.\n\n\n\nThe USHMM Building Policies has a full list of prohibited items.\n\n\n\nWe suggest looking over the Tips for your Visit page.\n\n\n\nUSHMM Accessibility information\n\n\n\n\nGetting to the Museum\n\n\n\nThe nearest Metro stop is Smithsonian on the Orange\, Blue\, and Silver lines\, located one block east of the Museum. Multiple buses also stop at the museum. USHMM does not have parking so if you need to drive consider reserving a parking space using ParkMobile or SpotHero. SUMMARY:Zen Brush Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join One Heart Sangha and Washington Ethical Society for a Zen brush art workshop. Sensei Bob JinGen Ertman\, who has studied brush art and calligraphy extensively with Japanese masters\, will be leading the workshop. \n\n\n\n\n\nEnso by Sensei Bob\n\n\n\n\n\nBrush art is a Japanese art form typically featuring natural subjects\, Japanese characters\, or traditional shapes like the circular enso. Zen brush art emphasizes spontaneity and minimalism\, contrasting black ink and white paper. There is no right or wrong in Zen art\, only what is present for the artist in the moment each brush stroke is made. \n\n\n\nAdvance registration is required so we can be sure we have enough space and materials on hand. The workshop is free. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to support the organizers\, we welcome you to donate to Washington Ethical Society\, who is generously providing space for the workshop. One Heart Sangha is also grateful for donations for supplies. \n\n\n\nIf you have questions\, write info@oneheartsangha.org.
